The first & only place for Seven Sisters Alums and undergraduates to network & connect
In this episode of Conversations with Seven Sisters Jen is chatting with Dr. Wendy Dean (Smith College ℅ ‘87) on the fascinating topics of moral injury, the medical industrial complex, and how you as a patient can address the issue in your actions.
Dr. Dean explains the concept of moral injury and how it varies from typical burnout. Jen asks about why healthcare has changed from mom and pop offices to big medical corporations. Dr. Dean sheds light on the stresses physicians are under in their jobs as well as the limited amount of freedom they have to speak out. Dr. Dean wrote a book on the subject,
If I Betray These Words, and shares the process of writing and her hopes for the book.
If you are feeling frustrated with the medical care you and your family receive, this episode sheds light on the reasons behind some of those issues, and how you can take action on them. Let Dr. Dean and I know that you listened by posting on one of our
Facebook Groups about what you learned from the episode.
Dr. Dean practiced as a psychiatrist for a decade, worked in medical product development for the Department of Defense, and then as an executive for a half-billion dollar non-profit. Since 2019, she has focused solely on reducing workforce distress.
